Last Steam from Ironbridge (Shuttle 1) - Sunday 9th June at 12:00
Shuttle 1 - SOLD OUT
Shuttle 2 - SOLD OUT
In 2015, the younger of the two power stations at Ironbridge, Ironbridge B, was decommissioned. The older, Ironbridge A was shut down in 1981. The site was destined to be cleared and the power station and massive cooling towers are to be replaced by a development of several hundred new homes, commercial development and leisure facilities.
The steep branch line that served to deliver between 3000>6000 tonnes of coal each day was soon earmarked for closure by 2019http://www.vintagetrains.co.ukhttp://www.vintagetrains.co.ukbut not before we get to operate No 7029 'Clun Castle' up the steep climb.
We will depart Wellington and Telford stations towards Cosford 'Clun Castle' hauling the train, then reverse down the branch as far as we are allowed. Unfortunately, all rail traffic over the Albert Edward Bridge has been stopped so we are unable to cross the bridge; we will have to stop short. We then change direction as ‘Clun Castle’ hauls our train back up the steep branch and over the curving Coalbrookdale Viaduct, returning to Telford and Wellington.
Please note, we do not stop at Cosford in either direction.
Our shuttles are quite possibly the last chance to ride behind a steam locomotive up the Ironbridge Branch. Passengers can join at either Wellington or Telford, returning to the same stationshttp://www.vintagetrains.co.uk
