CORONAVIRUS UPDATE FROM VINTAGE TRAINS

  • 2020 Charter Programme Cancelled

  • Tyseley locomotive Works PHASED RETURN TO WORK

  • vIRTUAL TYSELEY oPEN dAY ON jUNE 27TH

Following an in depth review of HM Government’s latest statements on the Coronavirus pandemic and guidelines for the potential easing of lockdown rules for the hospitality and engineering sectors, Vintage Trains Limited has decided to cancel its 2020 charter programme. The June and August trains will not run and planning for Autumn/Winter is curtailed.

HM Government is actively discouraging travel by train and it is now clear that social distancing will be maintained in some form for an extended period and that its enforcement with regard to staffing, managing passenger movements and driving locomotives would present insurmountable problems. By carrying significantly fewer passengers it would be also impossible to run an economically viable service.

Tyseley Locomotive Works has a strong order book so consideration is now being given to the potential of a phased return to work for staff, wholly dependent on the establishment of satisfactory measures required to maintain their safety. A further statement on TLW will be made in due course.

For those who have booked on the trains we have advertised, we apologise that we will not be able to offer these journeys now - we have no choice legally, morally or commercially. We are not offering to postpone or rebook any trains at the moment.

We are therefore writing to our customers and offering three choices:

To donate the train fare to Vintage Trains Charitable Trust. This money will only be spent on returning 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe to the main line and upgrading our train, not on general revenue support or overheads. This donation can also be made to the Vintage Trains Pullman Club – www.pullmanclub.co.uk.

Or

A credit note valid for 12 months

Or

A full refund

For enthusiasts starved of their regular steam fix, VT is holding a virtual Tyseley Open Day on Saturday 27th June with events, tours and visiting locomotives. Put the date in your diary now and settle in for a day of fun in which you can also participate. More details will be announced on VT’s Facebook and Twitter pages soon.
